Winter Weather is here!
And for New York City, that could mean snow.
That was my best meterologist impression.
But even though we at Free Tours by Foot can't tell you if it will snow during your trip,
we can clue you into some average winter weather for New York City.
December and March are not big snow months, but you should be prepared to deal with snow
during these two months as well.
On average it starts to snow in December.
But you’ll see the highest chance in January and February.
Theres usually about 4 days of snow in January with an average of about 7 inches (15 cm).
February is usually the snowiest month in New York City with snowfalls occurring on
about 4 days with an average just over 9 inches (23 cm).
Regardless of whether it snows or not, don't fear that it might affect your vacation.
We know how to handle snow.
Both roads and sidewalks are usually clear of snow and ice just hours after a storm.
Our walking tours run year round and often even if there is a little snow (it's pretty
atmospheric!) so when preparing for a visit to NYC in the winter, we recommend good waterproof
shoes or boots, and a waterproof coat for added comfort - rain or shine.
You may even want to invest in some thermal layers!
In our opinion, there’s nothing you can’t do when it snows, but of course, some things
are more appropriate than others. Our top pick is to explore Grand Central Terminal.
We offer an audio tour that you can use any time you like.
The terminal is open from 5:30 am until 2:30 am each day.
There are enough indoor attractions and museums to keep you busy.
